Something I don't really talk about is that im one of the few people that have started their (medical) transition as a minor, and it is not only disheartening to see conservatives use my experience as an argument to be transphobic, but also seeing liberals or self professed "allies" and even other trans people discount my experience and my own bodily autonomy just because of I was a minor at the time. I was lowkey misogynistic under the guise of feminism and I resented women that presented femininely and/or hyper-femininely, which was a byproduct of my dysphoria presenting itself in a toxic way. I started hormone blockers for 2 years late middle-school so I could figure myself out, and then I started highschool taking testosterone, which allowed me to assimilate and experience male puberty along side my peers (even though still dealing with transphobia ofc). I got top surgery at 17 (originally supposed to be at 16 iirc but was delayed due to COVID), and although I didn't notice too much of a change internally, my family did notice an improvement. I stood up straighter (even tho I do the artist shrimping thing), I was more confident. I still had other emotional issues unrelated to being trans, so transitioning didn't magically make me feel better just because my dysphoria was nearly gone, but it did take off a massive weight on me at such a critical time, because being that age in a school environment is fucking hell, even if you're not trans. I don't think we should force trans kids to suffer through the wrong puberty. Even if there's a risk of them detransitioning, there is undeniably a net positive if we allow these resources to be available to trans kids, and will quite literally save lives and help trans kids to experience some sense of normalcy alongside their cis peers (especially trans women bc testosterone is one helluva drug), no matter how small that normalcy may seem in comparison to the larger oppressiveness of transphobia. I'm an adult now, and people are surprised that im not cis. I experience all the societal problems cis men face, and it would be disingenuous to say I've experienced women's issues (including trans women) and I believe that all trans kids should be afforded the opportunities that I have been afforded, and I wish that my voice would be heard.
