Being an architect in Germany and watching public debate about insulating buildings in Poland is quite painful...

At the university I've learned how important it is to insulate your building and to use proper materials for it. Styrofoam was the main insulation material since we figured out, that asbestos is rather bad for our health.

Styrofoam is cheap and easy to use, but in most cases impossible to recycle and often causes problems with mould on facade. That's why we should think about different materials like glass wool or maybe even hemp!

It takes time, but this change is happening right in front of us and no one in Germany is seriously questioning it. Right-wingers here are more focused on their fight against windmills, but I digress.

Meanwhile in Poland many right-wingers are against the idea of insulating even with cheap styrofoam. What now? European Union is telling us we should insulate our buildings, because in the long term it will even let us save some money on heating?

"That's basically communism. And insulation will just destroy the nice looks of old facades!" You may ask, but how those people react to the fact, that valuable old buildings and their facades are exempt from compulsory thermo-modernisation?

Well, they just choose to ignore it and continue to cry and spread anti-EU and anti-ecological lies. And it's just tiring. Even the best chess player in the world won't win against a pigeon, who chooses to shit on the chessboard and happily fly away.
