It feels a little early, but I didn't want to get caught out with these warmer spells so I've put out the #solitarybee nest boxes, and the tubes from last year. #wildlifefrommywindow #gardenwildlife #nature #invert #invertebrates

When we say #savethebees it's not honey bees that are important, but the >250 species of UK native bees (including #bumblebees). Having flowers in bloom throughout the season, & a variety of flower types to satisy different bee species, is really important.

So last years tubes aren't reused I've modified some pine boxes into release boxes. Hopefully the bees will emerge, & then be seduced by the fresh tubes above them. A range of tube diameters promotes diversity in the species that will nest (what would Mango Mussolini say?!).

We're lucky to have space for 3 nest boxes, each ~15m from the others. Overall the # of tubes used has increased rapidly over 3yrs, almost 90 after last year (& it was a cold and wet start). This shows there's the food locally, so we're making a difference with the boxes.
