okay but #xicheng with werewolf jiang cheng who's the black sheep of his family, who's made to take on odd jobs he can't fail. in doing so, he kills lxc's parents. lan xichen, a vampire who loses his family overnight & can't find his brother, wants revenge.

he captures jc, and when he finds out that jc is able to bear children... decides to force jc to give him a new family, to replace the family he's lost. but then he finds out about jc's circumstances, & decides that they should be each other's family instead.

it's a process, of course. when jc is first taken by lxc, he protests at first, struggling, because he's never done this before (his father would have sold him to the highest bidder but it hadn't gotten to that point yet).

but the moment lxc reveals that jc murdered his parents, he loses the will to fight. he feels bad for what he did to lxc, so he doesn't even protest the rough handling, nor does he protest lxc fucking him because he feels like he deserves it for his actions.

he'd killed them in cold blood, ruining lan xichen's life, no matter that he'd only done it because he was forced to. it was the only way he could remain in his pack after his mother & sister had gone missing. all he had left was his father, who hated what he was.

every time lxc beds jc, he always tries to wring as much pleasure as possible out of jc, in a bid to humiliate him and erode jc's self-worth, not knowing it's already been eroded over the years, and that there was hardly anything left in him to destroy.

meanwhile on the other end you have jiang cheng who's thinking that if he closes his eyes, he might even be able to imagine that this is real, that someone is embracing him out of love, that someone could love him. he hardly recalls what that feels like.

but then lan xichen finds out the truth of what happened, and when he realises that they are both victims of circumstances, he has to convince jiang cheng that he deserves better, that they both deserve better than this unhealthy attachment.

neither of them is happy, not truly, because lxc couldn't let himself be happy with his parents' murderer and hated that he let himself care about jc, until he realised that jc had no choice but to do what he did.

this time, lan xichen kills jiang cheng's family/pack. for jc. but jc doesn't understand it at first; he thinks lxc is trying to get back at him. so jc tells him, "if you wanted to hurt me, it didn't work. i stopped caring about them a long time ago."

and lxc tells him, "no, baby, I did it for you. I couldn't let them get close to you again after the horrible way they treated you and used you." in a quiet voice, jc says after a long pause, "... aren't you using me too?"

lxc hurriedly corrects jc's assumption. "no! i mean, yes, i know i have done in the past. but i don't want to do that anymore." jc, feeling a pang of fear, can't help but ask, anxiously, "... you don't want me anymore?"

lxc shakes his head vehemently. "no-! what i'm saying is that i want things between us to change. I want to be with you. Because you deserve better than how I've been treating you."

and jc only responds with a soft "oh...", thoughts racing a mile an hour in his mind, wondering if he should dare to hope that this isn't just another ploy for lxc to ensnare him in his web.

it's going to take a lot for lxc to convince jc that he cares about him & to convince jc that he deserves to be cared for. luckily they're both supernatural beings with abnormally long lives. lan xichen has the rest of their lives to make it up to jiang cheng.
