Call for Submissions for the “Structural Democratic Reforms Project” we are gathering ideas from a diverse range of academics, practitioners, and concerned citizens. Submit your ideas for reforms to improve our political system NOW! https://www.democratic-reforms.org/submit

Critics point to many aspects of American democratic structures that reduce Americans’ influence on public policy, limit voter participation, and distort the representativeness of electoral systems. But what can be done?

Many reforms have been proposed - repealing the senate filibuster, ranked-choice voting, open primaries, etc. - but we may only be considering a small subset of what is possible. To address this, we are canvassing the “idea space” for reform ideas as broadly as possible.

We want to hear from you, whether you're a scholar, practitioner, or engaged citizen! We are gathering a wide array of ideas for structural reforms that can: 1) Increase citizens’ influence, 2) Facilitate voter participation, 3) Ensure election integrity & fairness

We're looking for as wide a range of reforms as possible. Anything that could be enacted via legislation, executive order, or ballot initiative to promote democratic principles. No idea is too big or too small. Outside-the-box = good. Any & all perspectives are welcome!

Submitting an idea is quick and easy! It should take less than 5 minutes to share an idea via our online form. Submit as many ideas as you wish. Submit anonymously, if you prefer.

Who are we? We are a team of researchers from Stanford (Katie Clayton, Jonne Kamphorst) and Dartmouth (Brendan Nyhan) passionate about safeguarding and strengthening democracy. Learn more here: https://www.democratic-reforms.org/

Why contribute? You can help to identify promising reforms worth further study. We will credit all contributors in the public database (unless you prefer anonymity). Help us crowdsource solutions to strengthen democracy!

Please share this opportunity with others (indivs or orgs) who may be interested! We are excited to gather new ideas from a broad range of scholars, practitioners, analysts, activists, and citizens. Please contact us with any questions!

H/t to some of the many people thinking deeply on this topic, many who helped us think about this project: @chagaiweiss.bsky.social @hakeemjefferson.bsky.social @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

@johncarey.bsky.social @leedrutman.bsky.social @nmalhotra.bsky.social @liorsheffer.bsky.social @nathankalmoe.bsky.social @sierrathomander.bsky.social @ylelkes.bsky.social @zeitzoff.bsky.social @aspeninstitute.bsky.social

@brennancenter.bsky.social @cendemtech.bsky.social @cfr.org @electioninnov.bsky.social @fairvote.bsky.social @freedomhouse.bsky.social @harrissocial.bsky.social @mccourtschool.bsky.social @rooseveltinstitute.bsky.social @ssrcmtp.bsky.social @stanfordcddrl.bsky.social
