In the absence of any environment for long form blogging these days, I&#39;ve used the help of a thread writer. Well, it&#39;s been a week since Fanfest, hasn&#39;t it? How quickly it&#39;s gone by.</p> <p>I went not knowing what to expect, because while conventions are familiar, I never made it to one of the Big Game Conventions but rather watched these things on stream. In my WoW days, I&#39;d participate in Blizzcon by buying a virtual ticket and hosting a watch party if I was feeling sociable. But an in person event was bound to be a big thing, especially after the past few years. I&#39;ve been making an effort to be more sociable, because I got very much out of practice thanks to the pandemic. But I didn&#39;t expect to be so affected by going from just a few FFXIV irl friends in another city, to suddenly being surrounded by thousands of them shoulder to shoulder. Each one of them having been through the same epic storyline, understanding the references to things in game, knowing all the same familiar music. It was really something and at times, overwhelming after being kind of a hermit for so long. But in many ways, this game continually inspires me to break my own limits. Arranging music, learning how to cosplay, participating in the sticker exchange. Somehow, I summoned the courage to go on the cosplay walk in front of thousands. I got to take photos with SS-rank personalities that help create the game and the streamers I enjoy. I also met some folks from the Meteion app, and it was so wonderful to put faces to the names. When I inevitably start to get the winter blues, I&#39;ll remember you&#39;re all out there too, playing FFXIV with me and hopefully recapture some of that feeling. So thanks, from the bottom of my heart, it was amazing to meet you all. I only hope I&#39;m lucky enough to go to the next one too.
