🧪 #### Plead for more engagement on climate crisis ### 🧵

Hi dear Scientists et al. ;) from the 🧪 community on Bsky! Growth of the scientific community here is having a momentum. I am finding more and more of you on daily basis. Most of you considering new option, while leaving Twitter Also this feed where i am posting is one of the most liked and used on Bluesky.

In this long thread i am calling on your expertise and influence for a critical cause and for at least a bit more of engagement on Bluesky. Even there are active scientists too, lots of them are still not.

I am aware that maybe this plead is asking too much from You. I am also aware that you are dedicating your lives for science on a level that others probably cannot understand how hard it may be. Please do not get me wrong here since i am asking for your time on a scale cca. 1 hour a week.

We are living in a period of climate crisis, and we live(d) through somehow in a period of COVID-19 crisis. Of course involvement was/is needed from broader community, but the scientific one is essential (citation needed) and needs to be vocal in my opinion. That way, scientific consensus can be seen and felt by each and everyone.

Climate scientists, ecologists, biologists, … are not the only ones that need to be “loud”. I think that sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, economists, … may be ones that will turn the scales, that other scientific disciplines were not able to do at the moment. At the end of the day, climate crisis is a set of complex natural and social phenomena.

I think that the visibility of the scientific consensus will be seen much more if you, from time to time engage somehow. Like, comment, repost or post your thought, post a graph, …. or short comment on some enclosed (scientific) article. If you miss content where you can engage, check some of the feeds on the topic (find them by searching eg. for “climate” in feeds on Bluesky. While reading the content from feeds you will meet for sure new people to follow so the community and interconnections will grow. You also need to feel this unity too. This is/can really be a global endeavour and it can be done by joint effort.

At the moment there are several very active scientists on social media, and their engagement is giving a life to this experience of visibility of climate change. And of course the urgency to act upon it. But it can become much more powerful.

I hope i am not asking much from any one of you and that i did not cross any lines with this plead. But your voices as scientists as authorities are the contralto and bass voices in the cacophony of other voices.

…

This is the 6th time i am going over the text of this plead, and i decided to send it anyway :)Hi dear Scientists et al. ;) from the community 🧪 on Bsky!
